The Ashland County Historical Society has announced two October events in Ashland, according to Ashland Source. The first is a family-oriented Halloween House at the Freer Children’s Home, 1260 Center St. It will operate from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 24-25 and Oct. 30-Nov. 1. Visitors can explore three floors of decorations, and costumes are encouraged for the final night. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children age 3 and older.

The society is also gathering school supplies for the Ashland Kroc Center during Halloween House. A supply list is posted on the society’s website. Groups that bring donations will have all fees waived.

A revamped History After Dark program is planned for adults. It explores local macabre history, including ghost stories, and is limited to ages 17 and up because of adult themes. Tickets cost $10 per person and include hot cider and cocoa. Sessions are Friday, Oct. 23 at 6 and 7 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The program takes place at the ACHS campus, 420 Center St., and involves some short walking and sitting.

Advance tickets are available at the society’s website or by calling 419-289-3111. The society describes itself as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on education, preservation, and community engagement. Its campus includes the Noonan and Manor Houses, Freer Home, and the Carriage House research library. The site at 420 Center Street is open for self-guided tours Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; guided tours require an appointment.
