The Athens County Sheriff’s Office announced plans to increase traffic enforcement during November. The effort is scheduled to run from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30, with a larger law enforcement presence planned for streets, county roads and highways. The sheriff’s office said it will work with the Ohio Department of Public Safety, the Ohio Traffic Safety Office and surrounding jurisdictions.

With the holiday season approaching, the agency offered two safety reminders. It said everyone in a vehicle should buckle up on every trip, regardless of distance, and drivers should avoid using phones while driving. The agency released the guidance with the enforcement announcement.

The announcement did not specify patrol numbers, enforcement targets or particular locations within the county. It also did not identify a grant or campaign associated with the effort. WTAP reported the announcement on Oct. 26.
