Ohio transportation officials shut down the Barnhill Road bridge over U.S. Route 250 in Midvale on Tuesday, Oct. 13, for emergency repairs, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The department announced the closure in a Facebook post that Tuesday afternoon. Drivers can still reach U.S. Route 250 from either side of the crossing, the agency said.
ODOT attributed the damage to a vehicle hauling heavy machinery that struck the bridge several weeks earlier. Officials had been watching the structure since then, and on Tuesday they found significant cracking in one of the damaged beams, the release said. That discovery prompted the full closure as a precaution.
The bridge is in Tuscarawas County. No reopening date has been set, and the department said it is pursuing a permanent repair while planning to issue updates on the project and its timeline.
The account comes from ODOT's Facebook post as reported by FOX 8 News (WJW).
