Wilmington Christian Academy has a new sound system in its common area, paid for by a grant from the Bush Fund through the Clinton County Foundation.
The equipment was installed during the summer, according to the school, and was shown off Tuesday when foundation and fund representatives visited campus for a tour and a formal presentation.
First- and second-graders and their teachers brought the visitors into a morning chapel service so they could hear the system working. Among those taking part were Mark Bush and Joey Bush of the Bush Fund, and Mark Kraus, Lynn Deatherage and Destiny Allen of the Clinton County Foundation. Academy administrators on hand included Assistant Principal Bob MacLeod, Principal Danae McKain and Head of School Bill Davis.
School officials said they determined last spring that the common area needed a better speaker system for assemblies and community gatherings. They expect the upgrade to improve sound at daily chapel services, musical productions and family events held in the building's larger spaces. It will also let the academy stage musical presentations on campus instead of transporting students to venues elsewhere in town.
The Clinton County Foundation describes itself as a community foundation that makes charitable investments and local grants.
