A Cleveland police officer faces criminal charges following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the department's chief said.
Jourdan Hernandez was arrested Monday, according to Cleveland 19 News. Chief Dorothy Todd said he is accused of communicating with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old; the person was actually an undercover officer.
A spokesperson for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office said Hernandez is charged with two counts of importuning and one count of possessing criminal tools. The allegations involve two contacts with what he thought was a juvenile across two days, the station reported.
Investigators gave him a meeting location, the prosecutor's spokesperson said, but he never showed up. A search warrant for his social media account led to his identification, according to that spokesperson.
Todd said Hernandez was removed from duty right away. He was hired in December 2024 and had most recently been assigned to the Third District, the station reported.
The station described the case as developing. The charges are accusations; no conviction has been reported.
