Clinton County voters approved a renewal of the 0.5-mill property tax levy that supports the Clinton County Combined Health District, according to unofficial tallies from the county board of elections.
The count was 9,618 in favor and 5,460 opposed, or 64% to 36%, with 15,078 ballots cast on the question. Because the levy is a renewal, it does not raise the existing rate.
Revenue is projected at about $458,176 each year over five years starting in 2027, with the first tax bills due in 2028. The county auditor estimates the owner of a $100,000 market-value home would continue paying $9 a year.
The district uses levy money for communicable disease monitoring, environmental health inspections, vital records, CPR instruction, community wellness efforts and emergency preparedness. Health Commissioner Monica Wood said the district also offers emergency aid to residents who cannot afford certain medicines and helps connect people with other health and community resources.
