Columbus published a community bulletin on Oct. 22, 2026, with seasonal safety guidance and several upcoming activities.

For Halloween and fall decor, the city advised keeping dried flowers, cornstalks and similar flammable items away from heat. It warned that artificial spiderwebs can be highly flammable and may trap birds, insects and other wildlife. Trick-or-treaters were encouraged to carry flashlights or glow sticks, and jack-o’-lanterns should use battery-powered candles instead of open flames, according to the bulletin. It pointed readers to Scientific American for more on wildlife-friendly decorations.
