Columbus will suspend curbside trash collection on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, as it observes Indigenous Peoples Day, according to a city bulletin. The holiday falls on the second Monday of October.
For households with a color-coded collection day, trash pickup moves ahead by one day during the holiday week. That same color-coded schedule will shift again for Veterans Day, which the bulletin identifies as Wednesday, Nov. 11. Households without a color assignment face a one-day delay only if their normal trash day falls on or after the holiday.
Recycling and yard waste are not on the holiday-adjusted trash schedule. Weekly recycling and biweekly yard waste collection continue as normal, and residents whose regular day is Oct. 12 should still place those materials out.
The city's Refuse Collection Waste and Reuse Convenience Centers at 2100 Alum Creek Dr. and 1550 Georgesville Rd. will be shut Tuesday, Oct. 13. They reopen Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for drop-off of accepted reuse, recycling, or disposal items.
Parking enforcement at city kiosks and meters is suspended Monday, Oct. 12. Signage rules still apply in certain areas, including rush-hour, valet, taxi, loading, handicapped-only, and residential permit zones. Department offices, including the Parking Violations Bureau and Right-of-Way Permits Office, will be closed that day; permits can be filed through the city's online portal.
Residents can verify collection days and set reminders online or through the PickUp CBUS app. Drop-off questions can go to the 311 Service Center by phone, email, or the city's website.
