David Coons, the Republican candidate for Darke County commissioner, appeared at a Saturday morning gathering at the Darke County Republican Party headquarters in Greenville, at 411 Broadway. According to My County Link, he spoke with residents about his background and reasons for running. Coons, a lifelong county resident, said he and his wife Elizabeth have six children and another on the way. He cited agriculture, economic development, and keeping Darke County attractive for future generations as campaign priorities.
Coons described an insurance career focused on farmers and agricultural businesses. He also noted service on the Darke Rural Electric board and involvement with the Darke County Community Improvement Corporation. He said those roles have exposed him to agriculture, infrastructure, and economic development issues that commissioners handle. Although not raised on a farm, he said marrying into a farming family increased his understanding of agriculture.
Former Republican state Rep. Jim Buchy attended and backed Coons, pointing to local roots, business experience, and family commitment. Buchy also said Coons belongs to a generation that can carry on the county's progress. Darke County Sheriff Mark Whittaker attended, and Second District Court of Appeals Judge Robert Hanseman traveled from Centerville. Coons mentioned a working relationship with Commissioner Matt Aultman through the Community Improvement Corporation. He said faith and family guide his public service.
The party headquarters, per the report, offers campaign materials and voter registration information during listed weekday hours.
