Defiance County commissioners have been told about two planned hog operations in Washington and Farmer townships, according to a media release on their Thursday meeting.

Permits for facilities at 13534 Beerbower Road and 05279 Wonderly Road are being submitted to the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Both would house as many as 8,250 hogs. The commissioners were notified, as required, though the release says they do not decide on the permits. Two notification letters arrived.

In the same session, the board awarded a contract to Advanced Excavation and Demolition of McComb to tear down buildings at 114 and 116-120 Harrison St. in downtown Sherwood, along U.S. 127. The bid was $119,450, compared with an engineer's estimate of $115,000; three other companies also submitted prices. Sherwood Mutual Telephone Association wants to build a new structure there, and the project involves a state community development block grant. Maumee Valley Planning Organization oversaw bidding.

Commissioners also passed three resolutions for grants at Defiance County Airport northwest of Defiance: $21,427 for a master plan update, $31,626 for taxilane reconstruction and $10,226 for apron reconstruction.
