Fayette County commissioners used a Monday session in Washington Court House to take up department reports, building renovation bids and a countywide branding plan, the Record Herald reported.

Public Health director Leigh Cannon told the board her clinics are ready for fall childhood immunizations and that staff are working to educate parents about preventing childhood illness. Influenza vaccine would soon be offered to adults and to children older than 6 months, consistent with public health guidance.

Commissioners rejected two bids for renovating the second and third floors at 135 S. Main St., a scope that also covered a fire sprinkler system and roof replacement. Officials judged the submissions too expensive, with estimates spanning roughly $3.1 million to $4.8 million.

Megan Gruber, who leads the Family and Children First Council, described the agency's work assisting families, linking them to community resources and advocating for children. The council, part of the county Department of Job and Family Services, is serving 17 youths through service coordination and assessment, she said, and its goals include kindergarten readiness, infant vitality and expanded youth mental health support.

The board authorized an application through the county engineer's office to Ohio Public Works Commission programs. A successful award would fund roadway paving and replacement of the Bogus Road bridge. Sanitary Engineer Jason Little said landfill expansion work was scheduled to start the following week, and commissioners approved a $73,638.58 change order covering excavation, grading conditions and waste relocation quantities. Completion is projected for Dec. 2, 2026.

Airport updates from Brandstetter Carroll Inc. included lighted wind cones beginning in November and apron seal-coating the next week. Matt Leasure of Designing Local delivered the final branding presentation; commissioners adopted the guidelines but postponed funding signage installation.
