Fayette County's commissioners used their Monday meeting in Washington Court House to collect departmental reports and take up a utility presentation and several routine spending items.

Building official Craig Breedlove showed the board a layout drawing tied to his department's planned relocation into a recently bought property on South Fayette Street. Interior remodeling must be finished before staff move in, and no moving date has been fixed. Breedlove told commissioners the department had issued 193 residential and 155 commercial permits this year, both ahead of last year's figures, and that electronic filing for plats and plans has performed well and eased the review workload.

Common Pleas Court Judge David B. Bender described court operations to the commissioners. He said the jury notification system is functioning well, felony cases are down from a year ago, civil cases are up, and foreclosure filings are increasing too.

Roger Sarver and Jeff Nehr of Northeast Ohio Natural Gas, which handles distribution in 30 Ohio counties, presented on gas lines serving the Mega Site in Jefferson Township and raised the prospect of running service to additional areas, residential neighborhoods included.

Among other actions, the commissioners awarded a $6,000 bid to Stroud Heating & Cooling of South Salem for a new heating unit at the Fayette County Agricultural Center. The county engineer was cleared to accept bids at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 2 for the 2027 Fayette County Transfer Station waste hauling and disposal contract, with an engineer's estimate of $650,000.

The board also approved 2027 allocations to the Fayette County Community Action Commission, the Brick House Homeless Shelter and the HUD Empowerment Center of Fayette County, funded by domestic violence service fees along with $17 per marriage license and $32 per new annulment, divorce or dissolution filing.
