Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose visited Lima to address the Allen County GOP, where he discussed his campaign for state auditor and encouraged voters to use absentee ballots.
LaRose is seeking the auditor's office against Annette Blackwell, the Democratic mayor of Maple Heights, according to WLIO. He described the auditor's role as a watchdog over taxpayer money, saying the work includes addressing Medicaid fraud and pursuing corrupt public officials.
In his remarks, LaRose said the office should also work to eliminate government waste, tying waste to cost-of-living pressures and property tax bills.
On absentee voting, LaRose advised voters to disregard concerns raised about other states, saying Ohio has not had those problems. He said voting from home gives people time to research candidates, including judges, before casting a ballot.
Boards of elections are scheduled to begin mailing absentee ballots on Tuesday, and LaRose reminded residents that poll workers are needed.
