Montgomery County commissioners have approved close to $800,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant money for nine projects, the county announced Sept. 9, 2026.
According to the county, the Board of County Commissioners chose the nine awards from 17 proposals presented to the Community Development Advisory Committee, a body composed of area city managers, mayors and township trustees. The funding comes through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which allocates CDBG money by population. The county said urban counties need more than 200,000 residents to qualify, while cities need more than 50,000; Dayton and Kettering get CDBG funds directly from HUD and are not part of the county's awards.
The largest single award, $195,000, goes to Harrison Township for its North Dixie Commercial Clearance project, which has a total cost listed at $250,000 and a slum and blight objective. Miamisburg, Moraine and New Lebanon each receive $100,000, for owner-occupied home rehabilitation, a splash pad at Ora Everetts Park and reconstruction of roughly 445 feet of Sunset Street, respectively.
Other awards include $50,000 to Riverside for demolition work under Fight Blight Phase IV; $60,000 and $80,000 to Trotwood for water main replacement and Madison Park playground improvements; and $50,000 and $63,166.63 to Vandalia for sanitary sewer lining and a sports complex play structure upgrade. Commission President Carolyn Rice said the program is a yearly highlight because the projects affect residents' quality of life.
