Montgomery County officials announced the completed purchase of 40 acres at the former Forest Park property, clearing the way for a new Job and Training Center. The $729,000 acquisition was described by the county as a cost-effective alternative to leasing that allows for a customized facility.

The site carries a long local history. It opened in 1928 and over the decades hosted a zoo, an amusement park and later Forest Park Plaza, a shopping center that was demolished in 2013. It has sat vacant for more than ten years.

According to the county, the Board of County Commissioners approved a $3 million contract with Miamisburg-based Levin Porter Architects to design the $40 million center. The building is planned to be between 140,000 and 160,000 square feet, with construction expected to begin in 2027 and an opening projected for 2028.

Commission President Carolyn Rice said the center would connect residents with skills and training while helping employers find talent. Commissioner Mary A. McDonald cited the county-township partnership, and Commissioner Judy Dodge noted the site's vacancy. Harrison Township Board of Trustees President Danielle Bradley called the investment an anchor for future development.

The county presented Harrison Township officials with a proclamation marking the partnership. Design and planning are now moving forward, and the county said project updates, including temporary service locations, are posted on its Job and Training Center webpage.
