Montgomery County Environmental Services has scheduled its annual Appliance Amnesty Weekend for Oct. 1-3, 2026. The program lets county residents drop off large appliances at no charge at the Solid Waste District Transfer & Recycling Facility, 1001 Encrete Ln., Moraine. Proof of residency is required. Accepted items include refrigerators, air conditioners, water heaters and stoves.
Hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 1-2, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. A licensed technician will handle refrigerants such as Freon, and metal parts will be recycled instead of sent to a landfill.
Commission President Carolyn Rice said the weekend offers a responsible way to get rid of unwanted appliances and encouraged residents to participate. Microwaves, small countertop appliances and outdoor grills are not covered by the free program, though they can be accepted for a fee. The county noted that the amnesty event occurs twice a year; appliances are accepted year-round for a small charge. For details, call 937-225-4999 or visit www.mcswd.org.
