The Oct. 6 EdConnection bulletin from Ohio’s education and workforce agency outlines several student competitions, facility planning resources and training sessions. It says students may enter the Ohio Grown: Student Chef Showcase by creating and cooking an original school lunch recipe that uses fresh, unprocessed foods that can be grown and sourced in Ohio.
According to the bulletin, Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission launched a website to assist districts with planning and building school facilities. The bulletin also notes that Ohio After School 21st Century Grant applications will open next month, with webinars explaining the application process. A separate webinar in the Accountability Training Series will cover the College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness component of Ohio School Report Cards.
Data managers and administrators are invited to an Oct. 14 webinar on fall Kindergarten Readiness Assessment data reporting, the bulletin says. It reports that the application window for the Governor’s Science of Reading Champions Award was extended to Oct. 15, and that National Biolympiad registration is open for students and schools.
The department is accepting public comment on rules. Rules for a Certificate of High School Equivalence and Competency Guarantees were posted Oct. 6 and remain open through Oct. 16, while draft rules on high school graduation remain posted through Oct. 10. The bulletin lists additional approaching deadlines, including Oct. 15 for annual immunization reports and Oct. 31 as the final day for industry-recognized credentials applications.
