MIDVALE, Ohio — A Tuscarawas County bridge is shut indefinitely after state inspectors found fresh damage in a span that had already been struck by a truck.
The Barnhill Road bridge, also identified as County Road 68, carries traffic over U.S. Route 250 in Midvale. The Tuscarawas County Emergency Management Agency and ODOT's Eastern Ohio District 11 announced the immediate closure, saying inspectors identified new structural damage.
Interchange ramps connecting to Route 250 remain usable, but motorists cannot cross the span itself. The highway's lanes beneath the bridge stay open for now.
Several weeks earlier, the bridge was hit by a vehicle carrying heavy machinery, an impact that harmed multiple beams and cut traffic to a single lane managed by temporary signals.
As monitoring continued, ODOT inspectors found significant cracking in one of those previously damaged beams. Officials described the full shutdown as a precaution.
ODOT is developing a permanent repair plan. No projected reopening date exists, and officials said additional updates will follow once plans and timelines are settled. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and detour around the closure.
