The Ohio Department of Transportation intends to change how drivers move through the junction of State Route 674 and State Route 188 where Pickaway and Fairfield counties meet, according to the Circleville Herald. As of Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, the crossing is to operate as an all-way stop.

Under the current setup, the stop obligation falls only on vehicles traveling SR 674. Drivers on SR 188 have not been required to stop before entering or crossing the other route.

ODOT pointed to the crash record in deciding on the change. The agency reported 32 crashes at the location between 2020 and 2025, and half of those resulted in injuries. Angle crashes, commonly called T-bone collisions, were the most frequent type. The department said the conversion is meant to improve safety there.

Signs placed at the intersection will inform motorists before the switch takes effect, the report said.

Statewide, ODOT is examining intersections for places where an all-way stop could reduce collisions. The agency said locations selected for conversion usually are those where crash data indicates repeated failures to stop or to yield.
