The Ohio Education and Workforce official bulletin, dated Oct. 16, addressed justice-involved youth liaisons. It said October is National Bullying Prevention Month and framed the month as a chance to help justice-involved students build connection, belonging and attendance. The bulletin referred readers to the Department's Anti-Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Resources webpage, which it said describes strategies for safe and supportive learning environments for students and staff.
The bulletin announced that the FY28 Ohio After School grant, tied to 21st Century Community Learning Centers under Title IV-B, will open for applications in November. It cited law enforcement and FBI data as suggesting that high-quality after-school programs can play a meaningful role in lowering juvenile crime. The grant can fund programs in schools where at least 40% of students are economically disadvantaged.
A pre-application webinar was scheduled for Oct. 19 at 10 a.m., according to the bulletin. The session will cover the competitive application process and allow time for questions. Registration is available through the bulletin, and grant resources are available on the Department's Ohio After School webpage or by contacting OhioAfterSchool@education.ohio.gov.
The bulletin also said the Court Involved Youth Coordinator is moving to a new role on Oct. 16. Since the draft date is Oct. 17, that transition has already occurred. The message asks that future support needs be sent to Emily Eckert at Emily.Eckert@education.ohio.gov. The coordinator thanked liaisons for their work.
