The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s October bulletin for homeless education liaisons marks National Bullying Prevention Month and directs schools to the department’s anti-harassment, intimidation and bullying resources as well as the Ohio School Safety Center. The bulletin links bullying awareness and kindness to a more welcoming school climate and lower chronic absenteeism, particularly for students without stable housing.
The department will hold virtual training sessions for personnel supporting students in foster care and students experiencing homelessness. State coordinators plan to cover federal requirements, state data and recommended practices. The sessions are scheduled for Jan. 22, 2027, and Feb. 16, 2027, both from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., and registration is available through links in the bulletin. Any staff member involved in supporting either group may attend, according to the notice.
The bulletin also promotes the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth national conference, set for Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 in Nashville. The stated theme focuses on centering students and strengthening systems, and the bulletin describes the event as an opportunity for professional learning and networking.
Brittany Williams, the state homeless education coordinator, holds virtual office hours Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., with booking through the bulletin. The department also notes ADA accommodation requests should be made at least 72 hours before an event; late requests may not be possible to fulfill, though the department says it will try.
