Ohio's latest foster care bulletin recognizes October as National Bullying Prevention Month, citing departmental resources on anti-harassment, intimidation and bullying to help schools build supportive environments. The bulletin says the focus for students in foster care includes connection, belonging and attendance.
A virtual training series on the Every Student Succeeds Act will address federal requirements, state data and practices for serving students in foster care and those experiencing homelessness. Open to any staff involved in supporting these students, sessions are set for Jan. 22 and Feb. 16, 2027, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
The bulletin also announces the FY28 Ohio After School grant application (21st Century Community Learning Centers, Title IV-B) will open in November. It states the grant supports out-of-school programming at schools where at least 40% of students are economically disadvantaged. An Oct. 19 pre-application webinar at 10 a.m. will cover the competitive process and take questions, with details available via the Department's webpage or OhioAfterSchool@education.ohio.gov.
The message notes a staff transition as of Oct. 16 and directs future support requests to fostercare@education.ohio.gov.
