The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is revising the state's model student acceleration policy for advanced learners and is inviting comment on the current version. According to the bulletin, recent legislation requires the model policy to include provisions for advanced learning opportunities in mathematics under section 3313.6032 of the Revised Code.

The department said it is also using the revision to review and update the entire policy, which was originally adopted in 2006. Under Ohio Revised Code 3324.10, boards of education in city, local and exempted village school districts must adopt either the state model or a policy covering similar issues.

Comment is being sought from educators, families and other stakeholders. The department said the feedback will help shape the revisions and ensure the policy meets the needs of Ohio students and educators.

Comments are submitted through a survey, which the bulletin says can be reached by a link and on the department's acceleration policy webpage. Questions or assistance with submissions can be directed to gifted@education.ohio.gov.
