Authorities in Van Wert County are investigating a three-vehicle injury collision that occurred on Sept. 1 when an Ohio State Highway Patrol vehicle was struck while supporting an Ohio Department of Transportation crew, according to Cleveland 19, which cited an OSHP press release.
At 11:52 a.m., an OSHP Dodge Durango traveled behind a slow-moving construction vehicle on U.S. Route 30 in Ridge Township when a GMC Terrain hit it from behind, OSHP reported. The agency said the Durango's emergency lights were operating at that moment.
Following the initial impact, the GMC struck a Ford F-150 traveling in the opposite lane, according to OSHP.
The trooper and the GMC driver both sustained injuries and were transported by ambulance to a Van Wert hospital, OSHP stated. Occupants of the Ford were unhurt.
In a separate Facebook post, ODOT urged motorists to put down phones and remain attentive behind the wheel.
