A paid political advertisement published by Crawford County Now says Wynford Local School District voters will consider a 1.75% traditional school district income tax on the Nov. 3 ballot. The ad was paid for by Wynford for Kids and states it does not necessarily reflect the editorial position or official views of North Central Ohio Media Group. According to the ad, district leaders want to stabilize finances after a 23-year gap since new operational funding was passed.
Jay Scott, identified in the ad as being with Wynford for Kids, spoke on Community Spotlight. He said the district has reduced spending by more than $850,000 since last spring, with nearly half of that total from administrative costs, in response to rising inflation.
Scott also said passing the income tax would allow the school board to honor a commitment. Under that plan, one of the district's two existing property tax levies would be permitted to expire when it comes up for renewal next year. The ad frames the approach as passing the income tax while lowering property taxes, which district leaders hope will offer a sustainable financial path over the next decade.
