Eugene Schulze will leave his post as Shelby County Fair Board treasurer on Nov. 30, the board was told at its Oct. 21 meeting. Schulze has served on the board for 25 years, including 12 as treasurer, according to the Sidney Daily News report.

The board is seeking outside money for two projects. It applied for an Amazon grant for a sound system in the Clopay Building. Secretary Bill Clark separately requested Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association help for a race horse barn roof, a matching grant with a $20,000 replacement estimate. Neither request was described as approved in the report.

Other board actions included forming a committee to explore a 2028 fair concert and approving $500 for Fair Queen Cassie Heath to attend a January Ohio Fair Managers Association convention competition. The board approved a motion concerning paving the fairground entrance; Superior Seal Coating submitted a $35,000 bid, with a $10,000 sponsorship and a $20,000 grant cited toward costs. Maintenance Supervisor Chris Roediger said a transformer could not be repaired, and the board approved a $2,500 replacement purchase. It also approved an $8,743 bid to replace a power pole near the speed barn and move high-voltage equipment.

The board changed one Salem Township seat to at-large D and will appoint Franklin, Cynthian, Turtle Creek and at-large D members in November. It will not renew Digital Avenue’s contract and will seek a graphic artist and publisher. Hall of Fame nominations for 2027 are due before the November meeting. A 2027 budget meeting is set for Nov. 10 at 7 p.m., a rule-change meeting for Nov. 15 at 6 p.m., and the next board meeting for Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. At the Oct. 21 meeting, officials said Livestock Complex engineering issues should be resolved soon and footers placed within two weeks.
