Stillwater Center will hold its first Spooktacular 5K and Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at 8100 N. Main St. in Dayton.
Runners, walkers, wheelchair users and families are invited. The schedule includes a 5K run and walk plus a roughly half-mile fun run with an accessible option for wheelchair users. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m.; the race begins at 9 a.m.
Organizers describe a Halloween-themed morning with a costume contest, trick-or-treating and raffle prizes. Costume categories cover Best Overall, Most Creative and Best Character for children 12 and under, and Best Overall, Funniest and Best Couple/Group for those over 12. Costumes should avoid gore or graphic content.
Stillwater Center, an Intermediate Care Facility, houses about 98 children and adults who are total care dependent and have intellectual or physical disabilities and complex medical needs, according to the county. It provides permanent and respite living, medical care, therapies, habilitation services and recreational programming.
Proceeds go to recreational programming, therapeutic activities and other items not covered by traditional funding. County Commission President Carolyn Rice and Stillwater Director Dr. Michelle Pierce-Mobley both described the event as a way to bring the community together in support of residents.
Early-bird registration was $30 through Sept. 13, 2026; it is now $35, with race-day registration $40. The county announcement gives conflicting information about fun-run charges, describing it as free but also listing fees. Check the registration page for the applicable cost. Registration by Oct. 7 guarantees a themed T-shirt. Additional shirts are $15. Registration is at mcoh.info/Stillwater5K.
