Testimony in the Caleb Flynn murder trial continued into a third day Monday in Miami County, according to WHIO TV.
Flynn is accused of fatally shooting his wife, Ashley, inside their Tipp City residence in February while their daughters were asleep, the station reported. Flynn has claimed an intruder entered the home and killed her.
David Hammond, an Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation special agent, testified for roughly three hours, saying he spent about 12 hours at the home gathering evidence. He told the court his concern after examining the scene was that it was a homicide staged to resemble a burglary, WHIO reported. Under questioning by defense attorney Patrick Mulligan, Hammond acknowledged the rear door was unlocked and he did not know how long it had been that way.
Holly Ryczek, a BCI crime scene technician, testified the door damage did not resemble forced entry she had seen elsewhere. A Tipp City detective said investigators spent tens of hours across several weeks searching for the gun, including in attic insulation and neighborhood storm drains, without success.
Dr. Bryan Casto, a Montgomery County deputy coroner and forensic pathologist, testified Ashley Flynn was shot twice at close range as she slept, WHIO reported. On cross-examination, defense attorney Emily Smith asked whether he could determine the specific firing distance; Casto said he could not.
The station said five witnesses took the stand during the day.
