Superintendents from across Allen County gathered in Lima to give Rotary Club members an overview of conditions in area schools.

According to WLIO, ten district leaders joined a roundtable on the issues they confront. Participants said districts of every size contend with comparable pressures, among them shifts in state property tax policy and the difficulty of maintaining quality instruction when money is tight.

Hiring emerged as another shared concern. Craig Kupferburg, superintendent of the Allen County Educational Service Center, described a teacher shortage that has widened beyond specialties such as physics to affect the state broadly. He called for efforts to draw strong young candidates into education as a career.

The group also weighed the benefits and drawbacks of artificial intelligence in classrooms.

The discussion took place at a Lima Rotarians meeting and was reported by WLIO.
