At its regular Monday meeting, the Benjamin Logan Board of Education heard that Ohio awarded the district a 4.0 out of 5.0-star rating for the 2024-2025 school year. The Middle School earned 4.5 stars, exceeding state standards, while the High School and Elementary School each received 3.5 stars, meeting standards.
District proficiency stood at 72.9% in English Language Arts and 62.5% in Mathematics, compared with state averages of 62.2% and 56.4%, respectively. Superintendent Dr. Flynn highlighted the High School's 5.0-star rating for College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness and said the district has long followed the 3 E's of Employment, Enrollment, or Enlistment.
Jara Everhart, Director of School-Based Health Center Services, reported that the on-site clinic served 381 patients last school year, a roughly 22% decrease, while patient visits rose nearly 11% to 1,612. She said the clinic averaged 81 student visits per month and saved an average of 153 minutes per visit, meaning students spent 2.5 more hours in class than they would have with an off-campus provider.
During audience participation, parent Alicia Houchin raised a safety concern about her daughter crossing State Route 117 and requested a safety audit. Alonna Watkins asked about timing changes to Weekday Christian Education sessions. Superintendent Flynn said state law prevents releasing students from graded or state-standard classes.
The board approved several financial items, including a $25,000 Ohio Arts Council grant for music faculty Jennifer Davis and Miles Bowers, and the FY 2027 Permanent Appropriations as presented. Personnel approvals included detention, Saturday school and study tables; Kyle Trees and Cadan Goldstein as Girls Varsity High School Soccer Coaches; and Brooke Smith and Kaleigh Saylor as Elementary School Technology Assistants.
The board approved purchasing services from Transportation Accessories Company, Inc. to mount cameras below bus stop signs, activating during pick-ups and drop-offs to provide video for law enforcement, at a cost of $36,120 for all buses. It also approved a three-year contract with Tyler Technologies for bus routing and monitoring, including GPS, preventive maintenance data, and a parent app, at $30,000 per year for three years, then roughly $22,000 annually thereafter.
Donations accepted included $1,250 from the Ohio High School Athletic Association; $6,300 in greenhouse supplies from Lowe's; $750 in Farm Science Review tickets from Logan County Electric Cooperative; $500 in wood from Larsen Woodworking; $1,000 from Union Banking Company; $400 from the Benjamin Logan Class of 1976; $420 from various donors in memory of Brenda Snyder; and six books from a Vietnam Experience series from Bob and Vickie Hill, valued at $30–$60, for the high school library. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 19, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
