BUCYRUS, Ohio — A tree-planting ceremony for Carl Rexroad, a former Bucyrus City Schools teacher, is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Bucyrus High School. The event is open to the public, and the family invites former students, colleagues, friends, and acquaintances to attend.

Rexroad began teaching at Bucyrus High School in 1968. His subjects included middle school science, American history, government, world geography, and driver’s education. He retired in 1991. Before Bucyrus, he taught at Bell Center and Upper Sandusky.

According to the announcement, Rexroad was known for witty sayings, storytelling, encouragement, and promoting critical thinking, and he affected generations of students. Many former students stayed in contact after he left teaching. He earned a bachelor’s in education from Findlay College and a master’s in education from Bowling Green State University.

A Buckeye tree will be planted in his memory, reflecting his support of the Ohio State Buckeyes. The planting will be part of the Bucyrus Tree Commission’s Fall Arbor Day event. Mary Lee Minor and Andy Furner are listed as attending.

Family members expected include son Ben Rexroad; daughter-in-law Julie Rexroad; grandson Tyler Rexroad; brother Gary Rexroad; and sister and brother-in-law Gloria and Chuck Gerringer. The family asks anyone with memories to share them.
