Clinton County commissioners approved a proclamation on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, adding the county to Operation Green Light for Veterans. The national effort is organized by the National Association of Counties together with the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, and it asks communities to honor former service members visibly while connecting them to benefits they have earned.
Under the local plan, the courthouse in Wilmington will be illuminated in green from Nov. 4 through Nov. 11. Residents, businesses, schools and other organizations are encouraged to swap an exterior entryway or porch bulb for a green one during that stretch.
The observance wraps up with the county's annual Veterans Day program, set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Murphy Theatre downtown. The Clinton County Veterans Service Commission says the public is welcome. Wilmington High School JROTC will present and retire the colors, Clinton-Massie students will show their Veteran Diaries project, and East Clinton student musicians will perform.
Lisa Angst, mother of U.S. Air Force Capt. Curtis Angst, will deliver the keynote address, and her family will attend as guests of honor. The Ohio ambassador for the Military Women's Memorial is also scheduled to take part. According to the commission, the event will recognize veterans of all eras, with special commendations for Global War on Terrorism service and for local advocates of county veterans; service members present will be honored from their seats.
The commission's next veteran meet-and-greet is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Lake House Grill in Clarksville. Additional updates are available through the commission's Facebook page.
