Columbus officials have scheduled the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Oratorical Contest for Saturday, Feb. 6, 2027, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is described as a tradition of more than 25 years that helps young people develop confidence and public-speaking skills while honoring King’s life and legacy.

Students from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited. The contest has four grade divisions, and local winners will earn the chance to represent Columbus at the Statewide MLK Oratorical Contest. Organizers are asking educators, parents and caregivers, mentors, youth-serving organizations, faith communities, and community leaders to help identify and encourage young people who may want to take part.

The location has not been announced. Applications are expected to open soon, and officials say more details — including the 2027 theme, guidelines, location and application information — will be released when available.
