A person was freed from the top of a farm silo in Carroll County's Rose Township after becoming caught in an auger system, the Carrollton Fire Department reported.

A Carroll County sheriff's deputy reached the scene early and climbed the structure, where he used a tourniquet to slow bleeding, fire officials said. The Canton Fire Department's technical rescue team supplied ropes and rigging gear.

Working across agencies, responders extricated the person, gave medical treatment and lowered the patient to crews on the ground, according to the department.

A STAT MedEvac helicopter was summoned at first, and the Great Trail Fire District helped establish a landing zone. Officials said conditions changed once the aircraft was on the ground and it could not fly, so crews organized a ground ambulance trip to an Akron trauma center.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol arranged an escort for the ambulance along U.S. 30 at Waco through Stark and Summit counties, which the fire department said shortened travel time and added safety for the patient and responders.

No identity or condition update had been released as of the fire department's account, which asked that the patient's and family's privacy be respected and expressed hope for a full recovery.
