The Fort GreeneVille Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted an Ohio History Connections Open Doors event Sept. 13 at the Studabaker Schoolhouse, the chapter reported. Organizers invited the public to tour the historic building, hear about its past and recognize the value of keeping a Darke County landmark intact for later generations.

Attendance exceeded 75 people, the chapter said, and among them were multiple descendants of the Studabaker family. Children who came received hands-on demonstrations in the role of students. Rumpke Waste & Recycling served as an event sponsor.

According to the chapter, the schoolhouse occupies part of the former pioneer homestead of Abraham Studabaker, and its story tracks the early years of education in the county. The Fort GreeneVille Chapter DAR maintains the structure, which has been refurbished so visitors can experience a classroom setting from the 1800s.

Group visits can be arranged by getting in touch with a member of the Fort GreeneVille Chapter DAR, the chapter said. No scheduling details, fees or contact information were provided in the account.
