CARROLLTON, Ohio — A rescue operation Sunday evening brought a man down from the top of a silo in Carroll County after he became entangled in the structure's auger system, according to WOIO.

A Carroll County Sheriff's Office deputy reached the scene early and climbed the silo, then used a tourniquet on the victim to bring the bleeding under control, the station reported.

Crews from Carrollton, Magnolia, Great Trail Fire District and Canton also responded and collaborated to extricate the man and lower him to the ground.

A medical helicopter was standing by, but conditions at the scene kept it from flying the patient, so an ambulance carried him instead. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers provided an escort to a trauma center in Akron. Officials credited the escort with saving time and adding safety for the patient, the public and the EMS crew in the ambulance, per WOIO.

The report did not describe the man's condition after transport, and no update on his injuries was provided. The victim's identity was not released. Additional details about how long the rescue took or the exact time of the call were not included.
