A flood warning covering southwestern Muskingum County, Ohio, took effect early Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, according to the National Weather Service office in Pittsburgh.

The warning was issued at 4:42 a.m. EDT and was set to remain in place until 10:45 a.m. EDT Monday, the agency said. Flooding from heavy rainfall was described as already occurring, with rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas at risk.

According to the weather service, local law enforcement reported flooding within the warned area at the time the warning was issued, and rainfall totals ranged from 0.5 to 2 inches. The agency also said many roads were still closed and that streams were continuing to rise because of runoff from earlier rain.

Communities the agency said would see flooding included Zanesville, South Zanesville, Philo, Fultonham, Cannelville, East Fultonham, Duncan Falls and Blue Rock State Park.

The weather service advised people not to drive into flooded roadways, noting that most flood deaths happen in vehicles, and urged extra caution at night when flood hazards are harder to see. It also said anyone told to evacuate should do so right away.
