Adults in Washington County will be able to get free on-site vision checks, along with help signing up for programs intended to build independence and career success, WTAP reported.
The Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities Mobile Service Unit and the Washington County Health Department are working together on the effort, according to the station.
The screenings are scheduled for the health department at 340 Muskingum Drive in Marietta, Ohio. WTAP listed the hours as 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, and Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2026.
Organizers describe the goal as reducing obstacles that include expense, missing insurance coverage and difficulty getting to appointments. According to WTAP, adults who meet the qualifying criteria at their screening can receive a comprehensive vision exam and eyeglasses at no cost. OOD counselors will also be available to help people enroll in programs, the station reported.
Sherry Ellem, identified as Administrative Director, said vision care and support programs are key to living healthily and independently, and she said she was glad to work with OOD and Prevent Blindness Ohio so residents could reach care and resources locally.
