Galion head football coach Matt Dick has been recognized as the October Coach of the Month by Lewis Family McDonald’s, Crawford County Now reported on Nov. 4, 2026. The outlet said the honor cited his commitment to the program and his influence on athletes.
Dick has spent 21 years in coaching and is in his 11th season as a head coach, according to the report. Before leading Galion, he coached at Madison and Fredericktown. He told the outlet that his most significant accomplishment is the effect he has had on young people’s lives, describing relationships with players, coaches and families as central to that work.
The report said Dick finds it rewarding to watch athletes mature on and off the field. He described seeing changes in how they communicate, carry themselves and express gratitude, and said he hopes those traits continue to show up later in jobs or in Galion.
Dick also said his connection to Galion City Schools is personal. According to the outlet, his five children attend Galion City Schools, he and his wife work there, and the family lives in the school community. He said that full investment leaves no room for hesitation and that he wants to represent the community and its students well.
