A utility shutoff notice was presented Monday at the Mahoning County Court in Sebring, according to Judge Joe Schiavone, who contacted WKBN about the matter.

Schiavone said FirstEnergy staff brought the notice to the court and handed it to employees there. The account is listed under the Mahoning County Clerk of Courts, and the judge said the court itself received no prior notice of the issue.

According to the judge, the notice set a shutoff time of 11:46 a.m. that day. He said the utility allowed a grace period and indicated service would not be cut, but expects payment.

FirstEnergy told the court the bill has been unpaid since May 29, Schiavone said. He described roughly three and a half to nearly four months passing without a payment. The judge said the request is simply for the bill to be paid.

Schiavone said he is very concerned about operations in the Clerk of Courts Office if such a basic task has not been completed.

WKBN reported that it visited the clerk's office and that no one there would give an update.

The station said it will continue updating the story as more information becomes available.
