A Flag City Honor Flight on Tuesday carried veterans from northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan to Washington, with U.S. Rep. Bob Latta, R-Bowling Green, and Gen. Steven Nordhaus among those taking part.
Nordhaus, a Putnam County native, leads the National Guard Bureau. In that role, according to the source, he advises the president, the secretary of defense and the National Security Council, and works to keep more than 430,000 Army and Air National Guard personnel ready and equipped for homeland protection and as combat-ready resources for the U.S. Army and Air Force.
Veterans of World War II through the Vietnam War made the trip to see their war memorials at no cost. Latta wrote in a Facebook post that the service was important for thanking veterans and that he was grateful for their devotion to the country.
Latta's 5th Congressional District presently takes in Mercer, Putnam and Van Wert counties.
