A Lawrence County Sheriff's Office bloodhound that slipped away from her handler Friday morning in Ironton, Ohio, is back home, according to the county sheriff.

Sheriff Jeff Lawless said the dog, El, returned on her own. He provided that update Friday evening, after deputies had spent the day asking the public to help locate her.

The sheriff's office said El got out through a fence and became separated from her handler shortly after 6:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of South 4th Street. Deputies said she was seen running south on Vine Street between the 400 and 500 blocks around that same time.

According to the agency, El is a female bloodhound wearing a green collar bearing a sheriff marking. The sheriff's office had urged anyone who spotted her or knew where she was to call 740-532-3525.

That appeal was tied to the period when the dog was unaccounted for. The agency has since reported that she came home. No additional details about where she had been were released.
