Peak of Ohio reports that a ceremonial tree planting will take place in the Village of Lakeview under America 250-Ohio’s Heritage Trees: Planting History program. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, at 12 p.m. at Lakeview Harbor, 11220 St. Rt. 366, Lakeview, Ohio. The source was published Sept. 28, 2026, one day before the scheduled planting.
According to the report, the Lakeview site was selected to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States, covering 1776 to 2026, and to serve as a symbol of local renewal, strength and rebirth after an EF-3 tornado struck the community. The Heritage Trees initiative takes inspiration from Boston’s historic Liberty Tree from the Revolutionary War era.
The program is intended to commemorate the semiquincentennial by planting white oak trees native to Ohio across the state. Starting in 2025 and continuing through 2026, Heritage Trees are to be planted in all 88 counties. The effort began in Lima on Arbor Day 2025, April 25, 2025.
The report says white oaks were chosen because they tolerate many soil types, resist most tree diseases and are native to Ohio. A specific white oak variety will be selected based on county climate and bought from an Ohio nursery.
Logan County Board of Commissioners President Joe Antram said the board appreciates work with ODNR, Indian Lake State Park, Indian Lake Development Corporation and the Logan County History Center on the dedication. The program lists Cenovus Energy as presenting sponsor and Ohio Liquor and The Lubrizol Foundation as supporting sponsors. Partners include Dawes Arboretum, Cox Arboretum MetroPark, Holden Forests & Gardens, Keep Ohio Beautiful, ODNR, Rowe Arboretum and Secrest Arboretum.
