The Medina County Health Department reported one confirmed measles case and one probable case in the county in a release issued Friday, Oct. 9.
The department said it would not disclose information about the patients and is instead working to reach anyone who might have been exposed.
Statewide, the Ohio Department of Health put the number of measles cases in Ohio at 228 as of Oct. 8.
According to the county release, symptoms to watch for include fever, which may be mild or may spike to 104 degrees, along with rashes that break out three to five days before symptoms begin.
For people who develop symptoms, the department recommends isolating in a separate room away from family members at home, staying home from work or school, and calling a doctor first so the office can give instructions. It also advises calling an emergency room in advance to report measles symptoms before arriving. The department describes the disease as highly contagious.
No information about where exposures may have occurred, or about the ages or conditions of the patients, was provided in the release.
