The Ohio Department of Transportation’s Nov. 2 traffic listing details several road and utility projects affecting Athens County and nearby routes.

On U.S. 33, ODOT describes an Athens-Meigs expansion to widen two lanes to four between Athens and Darwin and between Five Points and Ravenswood, with an estimated 2028 completion. In the corridor from Oxley Road in Athens County to Rocksprings Road in Meigs County, shoulders and side roads face intermittent closures for equipment crossings through 2028, and rolling road blocks are planned during rock blasting. The passing lane between Oxley Road and Pleasant Hill Road is closed in both directions through June 1, 2027.

Pleasanton Road is closed through Nov. 20, with a detour using Old U.S. 33 and Pleasant Hill Road. At Pleasanton Road, ODOT lists a 13-foot width restriction on U.S. 33, periodic construction-vehicle crossings of both lanes, and intermittent temporary signals through Nov. 20. Lane closures are listed in both directions on the four-lane segment from Pleasanton Road to Rocksprings Road through Dec. 31.

Resurfacing from Nelsonville to Logan is expected to finish Nov. 7, according to ODOT. Sign replacement between SR 682 and Rock Riffle Road may bring intermittent shoulder closures through Nov. 30.

At SR 682/SR 56, the intersection is to become a roundabout at the end of November as the signal is removed. Crews will remain for striping, landscaping and artwork, pedestrian crossings, and asphalt work, with completion expected in spring 2027.

Other listed projects include North Hill water line work along Columbia Avenue, Northwood Avenue, Strouds Run Road, and Old Peach Ridge Road, starting in November with a Feb. 1, 2027 target; Hudson Avenue water line work starting in November with a Jan. 1, 2027 target; AEP pole replacements on Chestnut, Poplar, and Canal streets through Nov. 30; and a sewer project that began June 8 and is expected to last about a year.
