The Ohio Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Humane Society of Allen County are organizing a Shelter Sleepover intended to support an active fundraising campaign. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at 3606 Elida Road.
People can participate by joining teams or raising money on their own, with a suggested target of at least $1,000 for the society. Those who take part will stay overnight at the shelter with the animals. Raffles and a 50/50 drawing will be open to the public during the week before the sleepover.
Proceeds are intended to cover food, medical treatment and everyday necessities for shelter animals. The event is being held with Justice Animal Rescue. Money raised also is meant to support the Ohio SPCA, which board member Tracey Tamayo described in an email to The Lima News as confronting serious financial difficulties while striving to stay open.
The announcement lists an email contact for more information or team creation.
