Registration is open for the 2026 Weeds University, an Ohio State University Extension Agronomic Crops Team program that Preble County will host. The session is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at the OSU Extension Preble County office, 450 Washington Jackson Road, Suite E, Eaton. A complimentary lunch is planned afterward.
The program targets crop producers, certified crop advisers and agribusiness professionals. Organizers describe a hybrid format that pairs live digital presentations with hands-on activities and say participants can earn continuing education credits while learning about weed control practices.
Scheduled topics include weed survey data, nozzle selection, cover crops, harvest weed seed control, annual and Italian ryegrass management, new herbicide options, and Endangered Species Act labeling updates. The speaker list includes Purdue University's Tommy Butts, Larry Steckel of the University of Tennessee, Ohio State's Eugene Law and Ram Yadav, and Alyssa Essman, an OSU Extension assistant professor and weed science specialist.
Ohio Department of Agriculture pesticide recertification credits and certified crop adviser continuing education credits are to be available. The fee is $40 per person and covers course materials; the Ohio Soybean Council is providing lunch. Registration is requested by Wednesday, Nov. 11, online at go.osu.edu/26weedsuniv or through the Preble County Extension office. Savannah Ballweg, agriculture and natural resources educator with OSU Extension Preble County, can be reached at 937-300-6009 or [email protected] for more information.
