The Athens County Independent published a listing of public meetings for the week beginning Sept. 28, 2026. Each entry gives a time, a public body and a location, but no weekday, so the roundup does not tie any single meeting to a specific date.
Early entries include the Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District at 8:30 a.m., meeting in the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail conference room in Nelsonville, and the Buckeye Hills Regional Council Executive Committee at 11:30 a.m. in Marietta. According to the notice, that session is meant to update attendees on projects across the region.
Also listed are the Athens Community Relations Commission at 1 p.m. in the Berry conference room of the Athens City Building, Athens County Children Services Board at 4 p.m. on East State Street, the Trimble Local School District financial planning and supervision commission at 5:30 p.m. in Glouster, and the Athens-Meigs Educational Service Center Governing Board at 6 p.m. in Chauncey.
Evening and late-afternoon items include two Athens City Council sessions at 7 p.m. at the Athens City Building, one flagged with an agenda and another labeled a regular meeting. Nelsonville City Council has a 6:20 p.m. utilities committee, a 7 p.m. meeting at city hall and a statutory session at The Lodge at Hocking College. Township boards in Rome, York, Dover, Carthage and Canaan, councils in Jacksonville, Buchtel and Glouster, the Athens County Veteran Service Commission, the Athens City-County Board of Health and the Federal Valley Resource Center Board also appear.
Notices for future inclusion go to info@athensindependent.com by noon Friday. The publication says meetings are in person unless otherwise noted, while several entries mention livestreams.
