BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — The St. Clairsville Kennel Club Dog Show drew more than 300 dogs to the Belmont County Fairgrounds, according to WTRF. The show marked the club's return to hosting in Belmont County after more than a decade, the station reported.
The two-day event held American Kennel Club sanction and included breeds such as beagles, mastiffs and Irish setters, WTRF said. Organizers told the station that the competition brought professional handlers together with casual dog owners, and they said successful showing requires years of training and commitment. According to the organizers, dogs cannot be shown for points before six months of age, and a handler and dog may need about a year to work together as a team. How quickly a dog learns affects that timeline, they said.
WTRF reported that Saturday's schedule included obedience trials and a puppy competition. Events on Sunday began at 9 a.m.
The report did not provide final results, individual winners, or attendance figures beyond the dog count. The characterization of the show as a first in Belmont County in more than 10 years was attributed to the station and organizers.
