Washington County fifth graders in Ohio took part in a hands-on farm education event during the week of Oct. 6, 2026, according to a WTAP report. The Washington Soil & Water Conservation District hosted its annual Farm City Day at Hartline Valley Farms, aiming to teach students practical farm skills and where their food comes from.

Activities included demonstrations of milking, calf care, equipment safety, and soil science, among others. Organizers said the event was designed to show how modern farming operates and to highlight the potential rewards of a career in agriculture.

Alexis Coffman, a soil and water education specialist for Washington County, said farming has become increasingly modernized. She noted that many people may not realize cows are no longer milked by hand and are instead milked with equipment. Coffman also stressed the importance of remembering agriculture's roots and the fact that everyday items originate from farms.

WTAP noted that video coverage would be added after it aired. The report was published on Oct. 6, 2026.
